A midsummer weekend of filmmaking fun for all and a free online film festival.

The filmmaking challenge:

Open to teams of 2 persons or more, entrants will be asked to make a film fitting one of two themes that will be announced at the beginning of the event. They will be up against it; depending upon what social distancing and lockdown measures are in place at the time, filmmakers will need to be creative. We’ve already seen some great examples of what social-distanced collaboration can produce, so we have full confidence in our filmmaking teams!

Completed films (maximum 10 minutes duration) will need to be uploaded online by 6.00pm on Sunday 28th to give time for our organisers to prepare the online show. Guidance will be provided on how to do this.

The film show:

Whether you’re making a film or not, be sure to join us from 7.30pm on Sunday 28th June via Zoom to enjoy the films that have been produced. Catch up with friends, sit back, relax, enjoy, and use your audience vote to help choose our favourite film. There are no prizes here - just a great opportunity to show off our filmmaking efforts to a warm and appreciative audience (and a little kudos for the winners!)

How to take part:

Whether you want to take on the filmmaking challenge or simply wish to join us for the Sunday evening online film show, you will need to register for the event via the Eventbrite page. Registering will allow us to contact participants with instructions on how to take part in the filmmaking challenge, as well as sharing Zoom conference access details for the Sunday evening online show.

Is this Midsummer Madness?

Let us explain. Within the CEMRIAC region there are six filmmaking clubs that make up a group known as Midland Movie Makers. The group organises a number of filmmaking events every year, including a terrific movie festival and an inter club league. These events help bring clubs and filmmakers together, supporting them and fostering enduring friendships across the region. Perhaps their most popular event is Midsummer Madness. This ‘film in a day’ challenge brings everyone together in choreographed filmmaking mayhem. Teams are challenged with producing a film in just one day - the themes are announced in the morning and the completed films are shown in the evening as part of the group’s annual dinner.

Sadly, coronavirus has cancelled this year’s annual dinner, so this event has been arranged to try to make up for this loss. We cannot bring the dinner, but with your films we can bring the show!

In addition to the six Midlands Movie Makers member clubs, the event is open to everyone in the region and beyond. Under current circumstances we thought that a film in one day would be a challenge too far, so this year filmmakers will have a extra 24 hours to create their masterpieces!

Please join us, and help us make this very unique version of Midsummer Madness a great success.
