In memoriam ...

It is with sadness that we report the passing of the IAC ex-Chairman, Reg Lancaster. John says, “I am so sad that we have lost Reg, although, he had been ill for some time. It was Reg who asked me to stand for Vice-Chairman in 2002. It took me 24 hours to say yes. I had been invited by two previous Chairman but had declined.
I owe Reg so much - we worked together with Bernard See, meeting weekly in Epsom, for several years while the IAC was in the "2003 crisis". I got to know him quite well during that time. He will be sadly missed.
Reg visited Nuneaton Moviemakers at one point to present an evening.
Reg Lancaster was born in Manchester in 1935, and had been a keen film maker since 1970, serving on many juries at local, regional and national festivals in the UK. He’d been President the Orpington club based in the South East of England, and served on the Regional and National Councils of the IAC. He wrote regular columns in club and regional magazines and did book reviews in ‘Film and Video Maker’ for the IAC. He was a much travelled staff photographer for the Daily Express for over 40 years. He loved the cinema, his two lovely granddaughters -
and Manchester United!

Reg died on the 13th December 2020.

Sad News

mourning.JPG

It is with sadness that we report that Mavis,

wife of late club member Jack, passed away on Wednesday 25th March.  She had been in hospital for treatment for a broken hip.

Unfortunately during her treatment she developed a chest infection.

Gren, their son, will advise of a memorial date when they know more.

Our thoughts and prayers go with them at this difficult time.

It is with sadness that we report the passing of former Nuneaton MP, and friend of club members, Bill Olner. (18th May 2020)

Former Nuneaton and Bedworth mayor Bob Copland described Mr Olner as a once-in-a-generation “local boy done good” who never attempted to rise “above his station” in a tribute he gave.

Bill was one of the guests of honour at the re-dedication of Nuneaton's Boer War Memorial in 2002, after the original statue had been stolen by metal thieves.

Nuneaton Moviemakers were privileged to be able to record the dedication ceremony and provide fascinating insight into the new statue's manufacture.

Gerry was a close friend of Bill and we hope he will convey our condolences to the family.  Picture courtesy of Warwickshire County Council

Gerry talks more about Bill in his blog this week.

The 2002 film 'Old Bill' (about the Boer War statue), is here.

Easter Weekend Lock-down Challenge - CEMRIAC

Starting NOW, and ending Monday evening with an online film festival via video conference!

The challenge: make a short film (maximum duration 10 minutes) over the Easter weekend to the theme ‘Lockdown’. Upload your completed film to any streaming file-sharing platform of your choice (e.g. Google Drive, YouTube) in time for our online Zoom video conference starting Monday evening from 7.30pm. September: In memorium - Trevor Mall

It is with sadness that we relay the sombre news from Jill of the passing of Sutton Coldfield Moviemaker Trevor Mall on Wednesday 9th September following a heart attack.

John remarks, “Many of us have known Trevor, some from recent contact, and others from many years ago. I first met him many years ago when his parents were also members of Sutton. All lovely people. This was at the time when my own parents were members of Nuneaton. Must have been in the 1970’s.”

Gerry adds, “ Many of the longer-serving Nuneaton members will remember Trevor, always friendly, always keen. A sad loss indeed.

An evening with Sib Ali Documentary Film Maker - Thursday 17th September 7.30pm

Sib Ali is a young Birmingham filmmaker that has worked on several projects over the years, including the short film Sea of Change that was screened at the United Nations which aimed to challenge views on disability.

He hopes his latest film titled 'My Life on Camera', will help educate people about how difficult everyday life can be when dealing with sensory overload.

You can read about his feature in the Birmingham Mail here

Sib has worked as a freelance film-maker since he graduated from the University of Wolverhampton in 2012 and has been a part of projects for organisations like Warner Bros and ITV. During his career, Sib has mainly worked freelance but has been persistently applying for full-time work producing video content.
