Fabulous Fabio

Regarding videos to be found on YouTube, I do remember asking members a while back how many of their own films they’d uploaded to the same platform. I’m pretty sure though that none of us can beat the amount that Fabio Benzoari - who visited the club last December to show us some of his work, has uploaded....I counted 87. Some of the earlier ones aren’t 100% sharply detailed, but the up-to-date ones are. And it seems he’s travelled the world to be able to put such a large amount out there. Make sure you check out some of his work.

One that’s in keeping with the current situation is entitled ‘The Plague Village,’ the story about the village of Eyam in Derbyshire which suffered a great many deaths, 260 out of a population of 800, during the Black Plague of 1665/66. (It is known that some of the village population were genetically unique and naturally immune to this very deadly disease). I seem to remember that Clive Atkins of Lichfield Moviemakers also made a film on the same subject.

Back to Fabio on YouTube, “Around Ashford in the Water”,

and “The Prison”,

are both worth a viewing In the first, Fabio tells of the pub landlord who decapitated his nagging wife....the pub’s called ‘The Quiet Woman’! ‘The Prison’ gives an insight into the State Penitentiary in Rawlins, Wyoming...104 prisoners were incarcerated there in cells with no running water, no electricity and barely any heating. Hauntingly apt music, pin sharp pictures and excellent titling are features of this video. Among his other films is the one he showed us - about the 110 metre-deep cavern in the Yorkshire Dales,

entitled ‘The Gaping Ghyll’. Fabio takes extreme care in producing the opening titles of his films...your eye’s drawn into the stories straight away, something we should try to emulate. Anyway, I’ll ask again,

‘How many of your films have you uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo?’
