Flash back to 'The Carlisle Train'

Looking at these photos from Jill -

the lower one looks as though Doug’s holding the original Millennium Trophy which was won by Nuneaton with Terry’s film, ‘The Carlisle Train’. The three of them acted in the film, as did Jane and Jackie. I emailed the photo to Doug who said he remembered it well – in fact he still had the same green jacket!

He and Eve are both fine, although, like us all, getting older, and now bunkered down in their Retirement Village. He and Eve send regards to any at the club who may remember them from old. They were very sorry to hear that Enid had passed away recently. Also in the lower picture, on the left alongside Doug and Gordon, is Barry Chinn, who left the UK with his wife Del to live ‘en France’. Over there, the Corona virus is taking its toll too, and I asked him how he and Del were coping. He said: “We are fine thank you, we are in lockdown and are only allowed out for exercise, a walk along our road. Fortunately we are in the country so only a few neighbours to wave to. We are also allowed to go shopping but have to take a self certified piece of paper saying our reason for being out and to where we are going. If stopped by the police, it’s a fine of up to 135 euros if you don’t have the certificate with you. The weather here is now sunny for a bit, so making us feel good and able to get out in the garden. I had a right hip replacement in January and recovering from that. Unfortunately having problems with arthritis in my left knee so I’m having a little difficulty in walking far. Del is fine and is a very good nurse. Thanks for the ‘last laughs’ they go down very well with our English friends. Hope all is well with everyone in the club”. Barry

On the same theme but a on a slightly lighter note, Gordon has sent in this clip from the club film, ‘The Expert’. He’d like members to guess, in light of the present circumstances, what Lestrene might be saying as she looks at the pile of toilet tissue. Send in your answers and he says there’ll be a prize for the most original one.
