Steady as she goes; a brief round-up of Hague ...

John writes ...

Many of our members will have heard of Hague, the firm which makes camera supports, cranes etc. (The club owns a Hague steadicam). Few members though will know that this firm is run by Robert Scot

ton from Nottingham. Even fewer will know Rob personally - he was a lead member of Nottingham Moviemakers (now closed).

He organised their international "Robin Hood" film competitions which were held in a proper cinema (he knew the owner of a Nottingham Cinema). He was also a member of the MMM committee for a number years. I knew that Hague was a small precision engineering company that had produced machinery for the textile and knitwear industry, which had turned to making camera supports in recent years, but I did not know that the firm had such a long history.

I found this, almost by accident, recently. Attached is a copy of their website information...this is on a PDF document. Alan remarks “We've had a Hague stabiliser for many years. I remind members about it at least once every year, along with other items, such as the spotlights, but no one has shown much interest. It's fairly easy to use, but takes a bit of setting up. It was used in "Extinction Event", when the camera moved into the prime minister’s office. The Hague stabiliser system has been in existence for some years now. The picture is of Bob Scotton himself, while the photo below is from the Hague website which, I would assume from the resemblance, might be Bob’s son? Hague equipment is sold via Amazon or other outlets. Their other equipment includes jibs, cranes and booms, shoulder mounts and rigs, etc etc.

More details of their gear on their website
